To avoid log file mangling, a pickled GApplication instance now returns an empty log file name, which will prevent opening of a log file. This implies that if a pickled instance wants to work on a log file it needs to explicitly open a new one.

If an application is constructed from the command line arguments with the --help option the application parameters are not loaded, and the destructor saved before the empty parameter container to disk, which effectively emptied the parameter file. Now the desctructor only save the parameters if they have been loaded before.

The optional linefeed parameter allows to terminate the string with (default) or without a linefeed.

The GApplication::log_parameters() method now takes a mandatory GChatter argument to enable displaying of parameters only above a given chattiness level. This avoids a log-level check in the client code. For the same purpose, the GApplication methods log_string(), log_value(), log_header1(), log_header2(), and log_header3() have been introduced (#1828).

…or the observation Python module. The classname() method returns in a human readable format the class name. This method is needed for full automatic typecasting in Python. Full automatic typecasting has for the moment been implemented for the observation module.

…name then filename is extracted from the parameter file. Thus any parameter update is correctly propagated. This fixes a bug where the logfile change was not taken into account under Python.
-
The coding and design conventions (CDC) document was also updated.

The GPars class now derives from GContainer and implements all standard container class methods. GApplication now allows specifying a log filename using the logfile parameter in the parameter file.

Add GChatter argument to print() method. The print() method now takes an argument of type GChatter to control the chattiness of the output in a homogenous manner. Pass NORMAL chatter level in __str__ method. Add chatter argument to print() methods. Use GLog::chatter() method to control the chattiness of the log stream operator. Add chatter() methods and provide member access through const references. Add chatter() methods, provide member access through const references, and declare one liners as inline methods. The chatter() methods control the new m_chatter attribute that is used to control the chattiness of the object's print() methods. name() and version() methods return const references. logFileOpen() method now sets the chattiness from the applications's chatter parameter, and name() and version() methods now return a const reference.

All classes our now derived from GBase. For this we had to define and to implement the clear() method for all classes. ostream and GLog friends have also been removed, as they are no implemented at the GBase level.
